This Barcelona-based startup has taken the world by storm with their cutting-edge commission management platform, powered by AI and data. Join us as we embark on an amazing journey with Sergio and explore the world of Remuner.
Hi Sergio, Glad to have you on our list of notable founders. Could you provide us with an overview of Remuner and its offering in commission alignment and employee performance?
Remuner is the variable compensation platform that helps you perfectly align your company and employee goals and incentives by automating all aspects of sales commission plans. We are a modern commission management platform leveraging AI and data through all steps of the process enabling data driven decisions to maximize performance while motivating and retaining your best talent.
What inspired you to co-found Remuner, and what gap in the market were you aiming to address?
The idea of Remuner comes from a real pain that my co-founders and I lived and suffered in our previous company Signaturit (a B2B SaaS company focused on digital signature). Remuner was born based on the personal frustration of not being able to properly manage and optimize variable remuneration as a lever for growth and we decided to build the platform that we wished we would have had at that time.
Remuner positions as the only compensation management platform that covers all industries with a pure self-serve platform and leveraging data and AI to provide customers with real time insights on how to maximize team performance.
How has Remuner evolved since its inception, and what have been the major milestones along the journey so far?
Since its inception a few months ago, Remuner has grown from an idea to a fully functional self- serve platform serving real paying customers across multiple industries and countries. Our biggest milestone so far is probably the moment in which we moved away from “design partner” and stealth mode phase and started marketing our product as a fully functional platform to big customers. At that time we started receiving a lot of interest and we immediately felt we had something unique in our hands.
Can you tell us more about the unique value proposition that Remuner offers to its clients and the competitive advantage it holds in the market?
We are the unique player that truly offers a self-serve platform that can adapt to any industry or compensation plan scheme, while keeping a structured data approach that allows us to provide customers with valuable insights along their compensation management journey based on data and AI.
As a co-founder and CEO, what have been some of the most significant challenges you’ve faced while building Remuner, and how did you overcome them?
As a co-founder, the journey is plenty of challenges, problems, or issues but also victories. This is a rollercoaster and the real big challenge you need to overcome as a founder is being able to navigate it without losing perspective on what your vision and end goal is.
How does Remuner utilize AI and data throughout its platform to ensure that sales commission plans are not only automated but also optimized to maximize performance?
We help companies make better decisions in terms of how to structure their compensation plans (i.e. what metrics to incentivize, what targets to set, kickers, tiers, etc.) based on their goals for the month or quarter.
At the same time, we provide real time insights to the sales and CS reps regarding how to optimize their day to day tasks to maximize their performance, and ultimately their remuneration.
Can you share more about Remuner’s recent funding round in January 2024, where you raised €2,000,000 in Pre Seed funding from Bonsai Partners and 13 other investors? What were the key factors that attracted these investors to support Remuner?
Our fund raise process was very smooth since we received a lot of inbound interest from some investors and had the luxury of choosing who to partner with. I believe what investors saw in us is 1) a relevant team with a proven track record and a perfect founder-problem fit, 2) a massive market and 3) a unique view on how to solve that problem based on AI and data.
With the recent Pre Seed funding round, how has Remuner managed its cap table, especially with multiple investors involved?
The structure of the cap table is very lean. We have a lead investor, a group of investors with a follower role and a pool of business angels who are founders, former founders or senior operators in our industry.
What key takeaway or advice would you like to offer to founders entering the same space?
I believe that deeply understanding the problem you are trying to solve allows you to have a clear vision of what your company is heading towards, which enables you to have the determination to navigate the rollercoaster of founding a company in today’s environment.
Lastly, what exciting developments or initiatives can we expect from Remuner in the near future, and what are your long-term visions for the company?
We are fully focused now on continuing to develop our AI and product capabilities as well as expanding our footprint in Europe helping more companies to get to the next level of variable remuneration management.
