Employee Spotlight: Trista Shi, Valuation Analyst at Eqvista
As part of our new blog series, we’re doing an Employee Spotlight at Eqvista! Our team is our strength and today we are excited to feature one of our newly joined team members, Trista Shi. She is working as a valuation analyst at Eqvista and assisting in business valuation services ranging from industry research, financial analysis and applying different valuation methodologies.
Hi Trista, it’s wonderful to have you in this blog interview. First of all congratulations for your new role and could you please share a short brief about yourself?
Thank you for having me on the team. It has been a pleasure to work here. I was a fianincal journalist with experience observing and analysing in business and financial markets e.g., IPOs, stock market and corporate finance. I developed a balance of analytical and communicating skills, and a better understanding of the overall market.
What brought you to Eqvista?
I developed a deep interest in the private equity market while reporting on related topics during my last job. And Eqvista is competing in a fast-growing market for capitalization table management, financial modeling, and compliance for private companies. I am very excited to take the opportunity to investigate valuation in private equity, equity management with Eqvista.
Can you tell us what your job involves? If possible, take us through a day in the life at Eqvista?
The job as a valuation analyst is dynamic and intensive in analytical work. For generating valuation reports, we analyse clients’ financial reports, investigate databases for comparable industry data, make future projections in financial models, etc. We also take call meetings with clients for valuation inquiries and introduce them to our equity management platform.
What do you like most about working at Eqvista?
The fast pace and efficiency is what I like the most. I enjoy the feeling of fully concentrating on the task and making progress, especially working with amazing people who are willing to try new ideas and make things happen in an effective way.
In your opinion, why partner with Eqvista for business valuation requirements? And, what makes us unique from our competitors?
Our valuation team is professional and well trained to conduct the valuation and has performed 409a valuations for companies of all stages and sizes. Our valuation analysts customize the report based on the client’s financial status, competitive market, etc. We take every client seriously and try to provide excellent work.
What is the most challenging project you’ve worked on during your time here so far?
In the beginning, every task for me was challenging, because there are times when analysts need to make reasonable assumptions based on a range of information, including financial statements, investments, and markets. The most challenging part for me is to make decisions on how to adjust the data that customers provided. Usually, I would communicate with the client for their logic in predictions. Then I would suggest my adjustments and calculations with reasons. We are also open to having discussions within the analyst team to get a better result.
What advice can you offer to someone looking to take on a role similar to yours?
I would like to suggest to them to be passionate about learning new things, and be brave to make analytical decisions.
If someone was interested in joining Eqvista, what should they know about working here?
Working in Eqvista is exciting as the market changes. Therefore, Eqvista welcomes new angles and ideas as long as it is for the benefit of customers and would improve the deliverables.
Thank you so much for your valuable time. We wish all the success for your career in Eqvista.
